  • Centre informed Delhi High Court

The UGC-NET June 2026 examination will be re-conducted for three subjects in September, the Centre informed the Delhi High Court. The decision follows complaints about errors in the question papers for English, Commerce and Sociology.

The announcement was made before Justice Jasmeet Singh during the hearing of a petition filed by a Sociology candidate. The petitioner had sought a stay on the declaration of results and an independent investigation following allegations concerning the examination.

UGC-NET Re-exam Dates Announced

According to the Centre’s submission, the English and Commerce papers will be held on September 9, while the Sociology paper will be conducted on September 10.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) had conducted the UGC-NET June 2026 examination between June 22 and June 30 across 87 subjects. The examination determines eligibility for the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), Assistant Professor posts and admission to PhD programmes.

Court Disposes Of Petition

The petition was filed by Aman Singh Yadav, who appeared for the Sociology paper on June 30. He had alleged serious errors in the question paper and sought protection against declaration of results until the concerns were investigated.

The Centre’s decision to conduct a fresh examination meant that the immediate relief sought by the petitioner was no longer required. Justice Jasmeet Singh therefore disposed of the petition after recording the Solicitor General’s statement.

Three Subjects Affected By Re-examination

The re-test follows an expert review that identified multiple problems in the affected question papers. Earlier, the NTA announced fresh examinations for English, Commerce and Sociology, saying the errors were too extensive to be addressed simply through the answer-key challenge process.

The remaining UGC-NET June 2026 subjects are not covered by the re-examination decision. Candidates appearing in the three affected subjects will therefore have to take the fresh examination according to the September schedule.
