NEW DELHI – Campus recruitment is no longer the sole benchmark of success for graduates at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi). According to data released in the institute’s Annual Report 2024-25, as many as 1,245 graduating students actively chose alternative career pathways, including civil services examinations, postgraduate research, self-employment, and launching entrepreneurial ventures, over traditional corporate job offers.

An extensive exit survey conducted among 2,656 students who graduated in August 2024 revealed a significant diversification in career preferences. Whilst 1,411 graduates received job offers through the campus placement drive, 359 students opted to pursue higher education, 321 chose to prepare for the Civil Services and other competitive government examinations, 224 became self-employed, 66 ventured into entrepreneurship, 45 joined early-stage startups, and 47 doctoral graduates chose post-doctoral research or academic faculty roles. Approximately 5 per cent of respondents indicated they were still exploring suitable career avenues.

During the 2024-25 placement season managed by the Office of Career Services (OCS), 1,359 students successfully secured campus placements, receiving a total of 1,481 offers across 534 job profiles from 378 participating firms. A total of 622 companies registered for the recruitment process, while 240 Pre-Placement Offers (PPOs) were extended and 86 students received multiple job offers.

Sector-wise data highlighted robust demand across both technical and management roles. Core engineering emerged as the single largest hiring sector with 472 placements, followed closely by Information Technology (246), Management (165), Consulting (151), Analytics (90), and Finance (79).

Among undergraduate and dual-degree programmes, Computer Science and Engineering recorded one of the strongest placement outcomes, with 105 out of 115 registered students placed, followed by Electrical Engineering (113 out of 124) and Mathematics and Computing (84 out of 92). Strong numbers were also recorded across postgraduate programmes, with 210 MTech, 142 MBA, 57 MSc, and 36 PhD graduates securing campus roles.
