The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay has launched an e-Postgraduate Diploma in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence (CS and AI), aimed at professionals and graduates looking to strengthen their technical expertise in computing and emerging AI technologies.

The programme is being offered through IIT Bombay’s Educational Outreach initiative and is designed for software developers, engineers, IT professionals and data scientists who already have a background in computer science through their undergraduate studies or professional experience. Fresh graduates with basic computer science knowledge can also apply.

IIT Bombay Faculty To Lead Programme

The e-PG Diploma will be designed and delivered by IIT Bombay faculty, with Great Learning serving as the EdTech partner. The curriculum will combine core computer science concepts with areas related to Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.

Rather than focusing only on the use of AI tools, the programme aims to build a deeper understanding of the foundations of computer science and artificial intelligence. IIT Bombay said this approach is intended to help learners adapt to an increasingly AI-driven technology landscape.

Online Learning With Campus Immersion

The programme will follow a flexible learning format, combining synchronous and asynchronous online classes. Learners will also have an opportunity for an in-person campus immersion at IIT Bombay, providing exposure beyond the online classroom.

The initiative comes as IITs increasingly expand their executive and professional education offerings. Online and hybrid postgraduate programmes are allowing working professionals to pursue specialised qualifications without taking a career break, particularly in fast-growing areas such as AI and emerging technologies.

Prof Vinay J Ribeiro, faculty coordinator of the IIT Bombay e-PGD (CS & AI) programme and professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, said that understanding computer science and AI at a foundational level can help learners adapt and compete in an increasingly AI-centric world.
